Ballerina In The Maine Woods
Honesty, one of my favorite things to photograph are stylized, model, fashion shoots with kids. If the kid is into the shoot it makes the shoot so amazingly fun.
I had the opportunity to shoot a very energetic and outdoorsy girl in her ballet/dance costume right before her big show! I quickly wanted to create a theme. At first, I was thinking Urban Grunge, Dirty Alley meets pretty ballerina, but that would require a lot more time than we had, so wanted to find something magical. That brought us the to the Cumberland County Maine Woods, which is a fancy term for just outside of the City of Portland. In fact, Iām still blown away that I can surf in the morning, skate in the afternoon and hike after dinner all in one day!
Now back to the story. We walked in the woods for what felt like an hour until when we found this area with pockets of light breaking though the tall trees. We got set up after check out 360 degrees for various shooting spots and then we got to work. It was so great to build the confidence of the little girl to a point where she would make the connection with my lens and just melt the hearts of all everyone viewing the image.
Bringing life and story to an image will pause time and keep us in awe.
