3 Ways to Hire a Lawyer in 3 Minutes or Less
By the time you finish this blog you will know exactly what I'm getting at.
You will say, "I see what you did there."
It's a cold mooring, and you see a yellow light. You slow down to a compete stop. You're tapping your steering wheel to the music and then your body jolts at the sound of tires screeching, you frantically look around and by the time you get to your rearview mirror, you see another car gliding towards yours. It's too late to react, and you know it. You clinch the steering and slam your feet on the brake. You know that won't stop this from happening, but it's the adrenaline is kicking in and you do what you can.
Your entire body whips forward and within a second the air bags deploy and whip your body backwards. The sounds of crumpling metal and glass breaking comes to a pause. It's really quiet, but not really. You can barley hear the radio. The song, Can You Feel The Love Tonight by the late Phil Collins is still playing, but sounds like it's playing 100ft away. You put your Mercedes E320 in park, pull up the hand break, and take the keys out of the ignition. You open the door and go to step out noticing that your neck hurts and your back is throbbing in pain. You slowly step out and take a step, you lose your footing, and notice your foot is broken. You break the silence with a scream, hoping that the pain will exit your body with it. As you look to the car that is now molded into yours, you see her running away from the scene. How can your say get any worse?
You need a layer. You need them to help you. This very decision will impact you for the rest of your life.
1st Way) A lawyer sees the accident and stops. Luckily, he just got his cards reprinted and gave you one hot off the press.
2nd Way) You call your Dad/Mom/Friend or the lobsterman who met a couple times and chatted up as he pulled his catch in.
3rd Way) You grab the very last phonebook in existence, or sit in front of google and type "Portland Maine Lawyer," and proceed to call for pricing.
A "not so" great story, but here's the point.
People seriously act as if they just got into an accident when it's time to get headshots, senior portraits, or modeling portfolios made. Overwhelming and dramatically traumatic.
So let's re-title this.
3 Ways To Hire a Photographer in 3 Minutes or Less.
1st Way: A Photographer happens to come to you when you just happen to be in need.
[How to proceed]
Stay calm, this may seem like fate, but you'll still need to sit in front of the computer to see their work. Do this in front of them, so if you have any questions you can ask them. If they aren't your style, be honest and let them know. If you like their work, hire them.
2nd Way: Referral - You call your Dad/Mom/Friend or the lobsterman who met a couple times and chatted up as he pulled his catch in.
[How to proceed]
I don't know how I would feel about using the photographer my parents used at their wedding 45 years ago. lol - Other people sure, Get the info and check out their work (website) and then hire them if you really love their work.
3rd Way: Google or your grab your local South Portland / Cape Elizabeth BuyLocal Book.
[How to proceed]
This is my second favorite way (favorite is the Referral). But click on the website and check out the headshots, senior photos, food, business, or whatever photography you are looking for and if their style catches your eye, hire them.
Chances are there will be only narrow margin of pricing difference between photographers, and what you get in return might not be worth it save a couple bucks.
Let's quickly bring it back to a lawyer, since they have very particular set of skills. Skills I've acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for the people like you." Sorry had to use that line from the movie "Taken."
When you need a lawyer, chances are you aren't going to call them to negotiate their rate, or ask how much they charge, and tell them the other lawyers are charing less. You are going to ask, if they can do the job, what their closing rates are, and if they work out of their mom's basement still. Hire a photographer based on this set of principles. We not only work hard at what we do, but any other photographers are like me, they have a family, kids, and people who work for them and since you love their work, paying a premium for a premium luxury item is worth the investment. I'm a business and that's hard enough in Maine, so when you call to make a headshot appointment tell me you love my work, and you know I'll work hard for the amount you pay, or call and lawyer and do the same, they will appreciate it as much as me :)
